A fence has been installed and No Trespassing signs are present. The train area is closed as of June 2022.

Abandoned Train Briceville TN

Something that you don't see every day is an abandoned train. Think of it as a ghost train tour at this point as it was to be an excursion train until the company went bankrupt around 2010 and was officially abandoned in place in 2020. The train has seen better days as vandals have taken their toll on the piece of history. Climb on board for a better look around as the entire train including the baggage car and engine are accessible still. Don't expect a difficult trail to get there as it is a gravel road that anybody can do. It is just over an hour from the Green's cabin in Onedia.

Getting There

The train is located behind what was once a thriving coal mine's washer plant. It is located at 7666 New River Highway Briceville TN or about 5 miles past Brushy Mountain State Pen. To say it is a curvy road is an understatement! New River Highway is also known at TN-116 which us accessed off of US-62 just South of Wartburg.  Best combined with a trip to Brushy or a picnic lunch stop before Brushy. Make it complete by visiting Nemo Tunnel as well.

Trails

You can follow the tracks for a little ways but do not go down by the river as it is like quicksand. Other trails in the area may lead to Wind Rock which requires a daily pass. Very LITTLE to do here but look at the train.
