The Baldy Pohl Award
Wolverine Four Wheeler Of The Year
The Baldy Pohl award recognizes the recipient as the Wolverine Four Wheeler of the year. The award is in the honor of Baldy and Kitty Pohl who were club members back in the 1970s. Their spirit of adventure and dedication to the organized sport of four wheeling are the foundation that our club was built on. Baldy Pohl was asked if he wanted to go to All For Fun Week in Colorado and without any hesitation he said yes and was on his way. The only thing was he was coming back from a fishing trip and towing a boat behind his Jeep CJ5. He packed his camping gear in the boat and hit the road. That year Baldy made a lot of memories as he towed that boat all the way to Colorado. The next year the Mile High Jeepers were asking if Baldy was coming back with his boat again. There are also stories of how he drove from the Detroit area to the upper peninsula in just under 5 hours. While that does not seem unsual if you think back to the 1950s and consider there was a drawbridge and the Mackinaw Bridge did not open till 1957. Did we mention he was driving a full size bus? Baldy was unfortunately involved in a fatal car accident in the late 70s and the club wanted to honor his memory with this award.
