The Gem of The North
The Wolverine Four Wheelers starting trekking north to Drummond Island back in the 90's to experience some of the best four wheeling that Michigan has to offer. From mud to rocks and water they have it all. While they have an ORV park we generally just run the ORV routes. Being mostly state land a Michigan ORV and Trails permit is required but no ORV flag is required. We enjoy a simple trip out to the shores of Lake Superior to view the fossil ledges and maybe even a quick dip. The trip would not be complete without seeing Marble Head and on a clear night viewing stars from the Maxton Plains. We run many of the same trails as the Jeep Jamboree which allows us to take it at our own pace. We generally arrive on Friday and will do a mini night run after dinner. Saturday is all day four wheeling as there are many trails to explore. After dinner we generally star gaze out in the plains or sit around a campfire and tell stories. Sunday is a quick run or head for home as the ferry is generally very busy.
Getting there:
If you want to take your vehicle with you the only choice is the ferry. It operates year round except in high winds/waves and generally about once an hour. Rates are for a round trip and they prefer cash of course. Plan on about $14.00 for a Jeep and add another $20-26.00 for a trailer if towing.
